This is the development history section archiving all the official announcements, news, updates, and other confirmed details of the game so far. Note that if anything is added without citations to back up the claim, it is detected as false information and will be immediately removed as possible. Due to how excessively detailed this history log is, this section's size will be gradually reduced once after the Dark Revival game is finally released.

The game's development has officially begun on February 10, 2019, as announced by the "From the desk of Joey Drew - February 10th, 1931" video for the series' second anniversary, shortly after the release of the Tasty Trio Troubles cartoon short and the first Showdown Bandit teaser video. In this video, it features an audio log with a new design, and plays the voice of Joey from February 10, 1931, who was talking about hiring new employees and "bringing dreams to life". At the end, it displays this message - "Bendy will return", confirming another Bendy game.

On February 13, 2019, Mike Mood confirmed that the game will not be a sequel or a prequel to Bendy and the Ink Machine, nor it would be called "Bendy and the Ink Machine 2". However, it does take place in a whole new different setting.[1] The game will also be released on PC, mobile ports, and all home consoles.[2]

On February 18, 2019, the second audio log teaser was uploaded, featuring Wally Franks and dated March 5, 1933.

On February 22, 2019, the Joey Drew Studios development team released a new teaser, to announce that the game is already under early stages of development.[3]

On February 25, 2019, the third audio log teaser was uploaded, featuring Thomas Connor and dated November 12, 1943.

On March 4, 2019, the fourth audio log teaser was uploaded, featuring Susie Campbell and dated August 2, 1932.
On March 5, 2019, the series' official social media accounts start releasing the letter once every day, with the final letter released on April 14th. With all letters combined, it says "BENEVOLENT DEMON, SOMEONE HAS REAWAKENED THE DARK".

On March 8, 2019, when visiting the Kindly Beast site's "About Us" page, two unreleased games' titles were revealed from the company's list of developed games, although they were redacted. One of the unreleased games is the new Bendy game, and its title was censored as "_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _".

On March 11, 2019, the fifth audio log teaser was uploaded, featuring Bertrum Piedmont and dated May 19, 1940.

On March 18, 2019, the sixth audio log was uploaded, featuring Sammy Lawrence and dated June 16, 1935.

On March 25, 2019, the seventh audio log was uploaded, featuring Jack Fain and dated November 18, 1943.

On April 1, 2019, the eighth and final audio log was uploaded. The audio log's date is unknown, and it plays a combination of voice clips from previous audio logs. After the audio log stops, a sinister voice from a brand-new character is heard saying "How very interesting. Such... knowledge." The video confirms that the game's title will be revealed on April 14th.

On April 14, 2019, after the reveal of the final letter for the cryptid message, the "RETURN TO THE STUDIO" video was launched. In this video, the feminine voice was heard speaking: "Don't be afraid. Don't let the darkness take you. You may walk with angels, and cower before demons. But one thing always remain. The choices you make." while the Ink Machine's new visual design was revealed. Afterwards, the game's title is revealed - Bendy and the Dark Revival. A Piper-like figure appears for a brief second at the end of the video.

On June 23, 2019, it was announced that the new trailer will be uploaded tomorrow. The teaser reveals what look like an equipment made of pipes, with "GENT" partly obscured by the "Trailer Tomorrow" text.[4]

On June 24, 2019, the first gameplay video was launched. At the start of the video, the voice of the unknown (who was first heard from the last audio log teaser) speaks to the unknown protagonist: "A pretty girl like you shouldn't be wandering around all by yourself." The video fades to the point-of-view of the main protagonist, who was revealed to be a part-human/part-ink entity. She draws out a new piece GENT equipment resembling a pipe with some kind of electric prod add-on, and navigates around the room for a short while. She soon encounters the Searcher, forcing her to escape from the creature as she uses the pipe/prod to power and open the locking mechanism onthe door, runs through, and then shuts it behind her. In this corridor, "The machine must be endured" ink message is visible on the wall, as the protagonist hides from a mutilated cartoon character walking by. This creature was revealed to be Piper with a newer appearance. The protagonist briefly observes the Piper from behind a corner, before rushing towards him and using her left inky hand to grab Piper, causing him to disintegrate into golden light. The protagonist sniffles in fear, questioning about what she has become, as she observes her hands. Finally, the video shows a brief-second glimpse of the Searcher's whole new look, and reveals that the game's first chapter is intended to come out around Fall 2019.

Around this year on the unknown date, Mike Mood tweeted a photo of the company office's coffee machine he installed. In the background, one of the employees is using the laptop, and what appears to be the main menu screen for Bendy and the Dark Revival is seen on the monitor.

On October 6, 2019, during the Bendy Inktober event, the environment artist Belden Pham shows off his take on the "Ink Critter" prompt,[5] revealing a drawing of an ink rodent. It is unknown if this is a concept drawing for Bendy and the Dark Revival or just made to demonstrate the Inktober prompt.
On October 11, 2019, nearly a week later after the release of Showdown Bandit, it was reported that over 50 employees of Kindly Beast were fired by Mike Mood, reducing to more than 10 members of the team. When this massive lay-off incident was leaked, it triggers an uproar among the fans of the community, while most other fans became concerned for the future of Bendy and the Dark Revival along with the franchise. On Glassdoor, before the lay-off, the ex-employees' negative reception expose Kindly Beast's rather unfriendly environment due to Mike Mood's toxic management at that time while developing Showdown Bandit. On December 16th, after releasing his Q&A Reddit post, Mike Mood tweeted his open apology to the employees he fired.[6] Despite the lay-off, the remaining members will keep developing Bendy and the Dark Revival, but the lay-off also affects the game's development, causing the game to be allegedly stuck at development hell with multiple delays. Pascal Cleroux reveals that the game's development has been restarted after the lay-off,[7] but the models and other assets will still be used; just the game programming and codes that need to be restarted. With the team heavily focusing on developing Bendy and the Dark Revival, Showdown Bandit was put to hiatus.

On November 15, 2019, a lot of new Bendy and the Dark Revival merchandise (specifically action figures and clip hangers) were publicly announced. It reveals most of the characters who were set to appear in the first chapter of Dark Revival; some Bendy and the Ink Machine characters were revealed to return, as well as featuring new faces. Allison Angel, Tom, Sammy Lawrence, and Ink Bendy were confirmed to return in Dark Revival. Besides Audrey, some brand-new Dark Revival characters were introduced, including a bloated Searcher-like creature and a perfect Bendy in dapper clothing (referred as "Cartoon Bendy"). Strangely, a clip hanger of somewhat Ink Bendy's Ink Machine appearance is also revealed, and it was unknown if this may hint another Ink Demon-like entity or something entirely else. The new action figure set includes Audrey (referred as "Ink Audrey"), Ink Bendy, Sammy Lawrence, and Cartoon Bendy. This action figure set also reveal new objects for Dark Revival. Besides Bendy cutouts and miniature Bendy statue, the Axe (for Sammy's action figure) and Gent Pipe (for Ink Bendy's action figure) were revealed to return in the game, along with the new unknown GENT equipment (first seen in the first gameplay trailer). From Audrey and Ink Bendy's action figure, there is a bottle drawn with Bendy's head and inky X-shaped lines (mimicking the skull and crossbones symbol), but its solid purpose is unconfirmed. On December 4, 2019, some new Dark Revival action figures became available, including Dead Boris and the re-shaded Ink Bendy in his Ink Machine appearance. This could hint the return of Dead Boris in some way, but it was strangely unknown why Ink Bendy's Ink Machine appearance was included for the Dark Revival action figure set. Dead Boris's plush toy also later became available in stores.

On December 13, 2019, a new trailer was dropped. The video starts off with a view of a new area with signs that lead to different rooms or areas: The left leads to the Animation Alley, the north leads to the elevator, and the right leads to the employees' locker room. It reveals some brief glimpses of the enemy battle against the Lost Ones, along with an introduction of new female Lost Ones. Throughout the trailer, Allison Angel's voice was heard warning about the Ink Demon, before revealing the full new look of Allison herself. The trailer reveals that the game was delayed and expected to release on 2020, then flipped to the message that reads: "Because we're putting our hearts into creating this game for our fans.", as it shows the scene of Audrey holding the Ink Heart, and finally displaying the word "Literally". The last scene introduces the brand-new Searcher-like enemy, which was first previously leaked as a clip hanger. Around the same time, the Joey Drew Studios Inc. website's Dark Revival page was uploaded.

It was confirmed that the game will have actual stealth gameplay mechanics and an improved save system, which "saves at the exact moment no matter what's happening".

Although the glow-in-the-dark action figure set was released, Ink Bendy's deluxe figure has, so far, never saw the light of day, so either it was scrapped or put on hold is unknown.

Furthermore, theMeatly confirmed that Bendy and the Dark Revival will be much scarier than Bendy and the Ink Machine,[17] and re-clarified this on April 24, 2021.[18] Also, around the same day, Kindly Beast's official website was discovered to be ultimately down, and all its social media accounts no longer exist, but despite this, Kindly Beast's Bendy brand team Joey Drew Studios Inc will remain as the team's only standalone game company, possibly serving as Kindly Beast's replacement.

On Twitter, theMeatly further confirmed to let everyone else know he is actively still making Bendy and the Dark Revival, informing that the game is not cancelled, and he is "almost there" to share new huge details about the game once the team is ready, as well as confirming that Bendy and the Dark Revival was the biggest game he have ever made.[96] At the same day, Sammy Lawrence's Halloween artwork was posted by the official series' Twitter account, and if looked carefully, his toothy grin can be seen behind the mask; this may hint towards his new characteristic features for Dark Revival.

On November 30, 2021, a new Dark Revival T-shirt was released in stores, and was once available at Joey Drew Studios Inc's official online store but got quickly removed. It features Cartoon Bendy and a small group of Lost Ones (with both male and female characteristics) at the Heavenly Toys department. This T-shirt reveals that the Heavenly Toys location may return in Dark Revival.
Around the end of 2021, however, due to alleged complications, the game's intentional 2021 release did not happen as planned. The "Year of the Ink Demon" event, which was first announced on January 1st,[97] fell flat, as 2021 was suppose to be the year for Bendy and the Dark Revival to come out, although the books (including The Illusion of Living and The Lost Ones) were at least published in the same year. Therefore, the team quietly delayed the game once more to the unknown date without making another public announcement. To permanently keep their focus on the game's development onward, the team members now rarely post anything from their social media accounts, and the official series' social media accounts already have stop posting frequently since the Christmas image but only uploads Dark Revival-related posts for now on.

On January 4, 2022, Joey Drew Studio's official Bendy online store was updated, with all products no longer on sale. The message confirms that the online store will re-open once Dark Revival finally comes out. A new Dark Revival screenshot is also seen as the page's background, revealing another new area, which consists of the entrance to the Main Studio, a pair of Butcher Gang curtains, and what appears to be a new design for the punch card stand next to the mechanical door.

Later around this month of January, a new Dark Revival T-shirt with Audrey was available at public stores such as Wal-Mart, although it contains an out-of-date description where it says that the game was expected to come out on 2021.

On February 10, 2022, theMeatly tweeted that, while there is nothing major to celebrate the series' fifth anniversary due to focusing on the development for Bendy and the Dark Revival, the next new Dark Revival screenshot will be uploaded soon this day.[98] A while later, the new screenshot was uploaded.[99] At the far right of the image, there is a table desk with the bulletin attached with an axe, record disc, and the Seeing Tool, with the "CONTRABAND" sign above the items. At the left side next to the contraband table is the Research apartment (with the sign vandalized as "THE PIT") entrance, but requires a top level badge (level "DEEP 6") in order to access this location. This may heavily hint that the player is required to find and use level badges in order to access many different rooms.

On April 14, 2022, another new screenshot was released. It reveals a new location somewhat similar to the Archives from Bendy and the Ink Machine: Chapter 4, with a dinner table containing ink-coated doughnuts, a cake (which was previously leaked two years ago), and a Bacon Soup can. Next to the large throne-like chair is a switch. The game's logo from the bottom right corner of the screenshot was also tweaked with some new redesigns, made to look much dirtier and bleeding. theMeatly also said in his quote tweet that he is looking forward to share the game very soon,[100] implying that the new full Dark Revival announcement may show up somewhere later this year.
